THE THERAPIES RISKS
The progress of the medicine
allows us to treat varicose veins with low risks, even
if a minimum risk remains.
In spite of this, it is good to clarify that all medical
acts are always associated to the possibility of many
complications. These can be effectively prevented making
a medical examination (visit), by an accurate diagnosis
and considering the patient’s history.( do not forget
to report to the Physician all allergies and all illnesses
of which you suffered in the past).
In particular sclerotherapy is submitted to the risk
of allergies ( as for instance an antibiotic therapy).
Another possibility, even if very remote, is that in
the point where the injection is performed a little
dark spot (pigmentation) can occur. Generally it spontaneously
disappears within a little time.
The lower risk to cause a phlebitis and the rare possibility
of the injection outside the in addition to the above
mentioned risks during sclerotherapy of the large veins.
This last possibility could
have serious consequences in case of injection in an
artery or a nerve but, luckily, since the echo-sclerosis
has been introduced the possibility that one of these
complications could happen is very unusual.
The treatment which is
performed today implies reduced risks, but is a medical
act and, therefore, it is subjected to complications
(hemorrhages, infections, would which delay to recover,
phlebitis, lesions of a nerve, poor aesthetic results,
etc )
However it is essential
to remember that the risks of each of these therapies
are very low and in any case lower than the risk of
not to taking care (treating ) of varicose vein – the
therapy with drugs or with elastic stockings can decrease
the symptoms and slow down the course of the illness
but, it is not always able to avoid typical complications
associated with varicose veins.
