THE COMPLICATIONS OF THE VARICOSE VEINS

The varicose veins are inclined to different complications. As time goes by, the risk of complications increases. It is not correct to think that having varicose veins for a long time without pain or problems is of no concern. On the contrary, in such cases you could have serious and dangerous complications.

These are the most frequent complications:

  • Varicose haemorrhage ( often with significant bleeding)
  • Lipodermatosclerosis
( inflammation and hardening of the skin of the legs)
  • Venous ulcer
  • Superficial phlebitis
    ( coagulation of a clot – thrombus - in a superficial vein)
  • Deep Phlebitis ( clots in a deep vein – the most dangerous phlebitis)
  • Pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs)
